I've mentioned it quite a few times in these blog posts, but I read Rachel Hollis's (Hollis'? Hollisis? Hollisisis'? Holisisisisisisiisisisisssss'? no clue moving on) book Girl, Wash Your Face this month, and I LOVED it!

Fun fact: I worked at my university's bookstore last semester, and when I would have down time, I would flip through books that caught my eye. This book happened to be one that I went back to multiple times, so it was about time that I actually sat down and read the dang thing.
With social media being so prevalent in our lives, people tend to only see the so called "highlight reel," a.k.a only the good stuff. So whenever we see something real and raw, we go crazy because it gives us the feeling of being human again, not some self conscious gal who gets a high after an Instagram like. I've actually heard that there has been research done that proves seeing a like on your post gives you the same feeling as a hit of a drug. Don't quote me on that though, I heard it on a podcast (are we even surprised that I heard it on a podcast? 😂).
ANYWAYS, this Rachel gal is raw and real in every sense of those words. She writes about everything from starting her own company, to motherhood, to divorce, to suicide, to peeing her pants. She also has a way about her writing that makes it feel like I'm just hanging out with my best friend. As I'm reading her words, I'm having my own little conversations in my head like:
"Oh my goodness ME TOO."
"How did she even know that I was thinking that?"
"Rachel, homegirl, how do you have all the right words for how I'm feeling???"
Seriously. It was that good.
I underlined soooo many things throughout this book, but I decided that I'll share my top three favorite quotes from the book. I'd share more, but then I'd end up sharing her whole book and that's highly illegal.
1. "Recognizing that all words have power - even the ones whispered behind someone's back."
2. "Judging each other actually makes us feel safer in our own choices" (this one is a truth bomb)
3. "God has perfect timing, and it's highly possible that by not being where you thought you should be, you will end up exactly where you're meant to go."
That last quote I drew doodles around because it really hit me in the heart. If you read my last post, you know how insanely perfect that fits into my life currently. But that's what I'm saying!! This book has a way of saying exactly what you need to hear. I believe that no matter what phase of life you're going through, you'll find words of comfort within these pages.
Overall, this book made me feel understood, comforted, and human. It also made me feel like I can do anything in the world so very #motivational. If you like my blog, I guarantee that you'll love her book.
If you need me, you can find me reading Girl, Stop Apologizing next.
Just Julia :)
